Harper’s Slough Tree Planting and Vegetation Management

Jensen Ecology was contracted to install over 25,000 trees and manage vegetation on created islands in Pool 9 of The Upper Mississippi River. The project is part of the Upper Mississippi River Restoration Program and the goals are to use dredge material to create islands to slow the loss of existing islands, reduce sedimentation into backwaters, and increase land and shoreline habitat. The tree planting entailed installing over 25,000 bareroot trees and shrubs to create diverse stands that could mature into a self-sustaining plant community.
